Sage Nagle believes that peace cannot exist without everyone feeling included. College & Career Specialist Viri Acosta says, “Sage advocates for peace in many different ways. Through her participation as a Student Equity Ambassador Leader and Superintendent Student Advisory Council member she works with the FCPS staff across the county to bring equality to those around her and to prevent disparities based on race, gender, or ability.”
Sage works throughout the year to plan Inclusion Revolution Week and Heritage Night, two of Annandale’s most celebrated events. As a member of the Student Leadership Team, she recruits a wide variety of groups to share their unique culture through short performances. Sage also manages performance lineups, dress rehearsals, advertising, and ticket sales. Her efforts provide an opportunity for Annandale students to share their cultures while bringing the Annandale community together in celebration and support.
For the last four years, Sage has worked to foster inclusion and community through the Special Olympics program. Inspired by her belief in "growing peace from within," Sage has worked to create a space where all students feel valued and connected. As president of Annandale's Special Olympics program, Sage has organized events such as FanQuest, a celebration that invites the entire school to cheer for Special Olympics athletes. These events have become a cornerstone of the school's culture, breaking down barriers and building friendly relationships.
By promoting activities that welcome everyone, Sage has shown how a single event can reduce bullying and even inspire a cultural shift. Sage recalls that "After our last FanQuest event, I saw something I'd never seen before -- general education students approaching Special Olympics athletes, congratulating them, and starting conversations -- building connections."
Sage is also a member of the Student Equity Ambassador Leaders at Annandale High School and the Superintendent Student Advisory Council for FCPS. In both of these positions she works with students and staff from across the county, along with regional superintendents, to ensure that students of all backgrounds feel supported and respected. As co-president of Annandale’s Leadership Committee she serves as a bridge between the Special Olympics program and the Annandale Student Leadership team. She feels that her efforts have encouraged students to view differences as strengths, fostering a sense of unity across the campus.
Sage hopes to continue her peace-building work beyond high school. She is committed to spreading peace and creating environments where everyone belongs. She says that the changes she has seen at Annandale High School give her hope for what’s possible when we focus on understanding and community.
