Owen Fuchs-Dubuque, Senior
Quander Road High School
2021-2022

“Owen Fuchs-Dubuque has overcome many obstacles and shown tremendous growth in the past four years, becoming a well-rounded individual with an excellent worth ethic who is always ready to help others,” according to her former teacher, Dr. George V. Deneault.

Beginning as a freshman, Owen worked with Quander Road’s service club, Blossoming Beauties. She assisted with clothing and food drives, toy collections, hurricane relief, and their annual Thanksgiving outreaches.

Owen is also the lead in the EFE (Education for Employment) Road Café.  She keeps their books, ensures that appropriate inventory is maintained, and makes sure the Café is clean and sanitized.  The goal of the Road Café is to teach students good work ethics and to provide them with job skills to enable them to earn internships at local businesses.

Owen says she works to befriend new students who are unsure and uncomfortable. She is an active member of the LGBTQ+ community, and she makes it a point to accept others. Owen says, “I recognize that many people exclude those who identify as a member of a sexual minority.  I do not try to force my opinions on them.  Everyone has a right to opinions, and they should be respected even if they different from one’s own.”

Owen says she loves animals, and she is currently completing an internship at Paws, Purrs, and Exotics animal hospital.  Owen has rescued many animals, including rodents, birds, and horses, and she is currently caring for two blind guinea pigs.  The horses are part of a non-profit organization, Spirit Open Equestrian Program, whose mission is to assist people with mental or physical limitations to ride a horse while participating in therapeutic activities.
